Project Linus is a great organization that provides "security blankets'" for children from infants through teenagers, who are seriously ill or traumatized. It is 100% volunteer, non-profit, and they have local chapters all over the US - you can help them out.
Blankets can be new or handmade and must be washable, but they may be quilted, tied, knitted crocheted or fleece...get involved
